Mrs. Claus’s Sewing Room: A Magical Holiday Exhibit
Project type
sculpture interactive
Date
December2024
Location
Anderson, Indiana
The Mrs. Claus’s Sewing Room exhibit, commissioned by the Anderson Museum of Art, brought the whimsical charm of the holiday season to life with a nod to the beloved movie Elf. This enchanting display featured handcrafted costumes of Buddy the Elf and Jovi, created with meticulous detail by the artist herself. Full-sized mannequins donned these iconic outfits, set against the backdrop of a beautifully staged sewing room.
The sewing room, designed to appear as though it belonged to Santa’s tiny helpers, was complete with miniature worktables and all the essential tools of the trade. Every element, from the sewing machine to the spools of thread, was thoughtfully curated from thrifted items and upcycled to breathe life into this imaginative world.
Adding a personal touch to the exhibit, the artist embodied Mrs. Claus herself, dressed in a handmade outfit. On select days, she became part of the scene, inviting children to join her for heartwarming conversations as she crocheted in her rocking chair. This interactive element added a layer of authenticity and joy, making the exhibit an unforgettable holiday experience for families and visitors of all ages.
The Mrs. Claus’s Sewing Room exhibit was a testament to the artist's ability to merge storytelling, craftsmanship, and community engagement into a truly magical display that celebrated the spirit of the holidays.
