Dorothy and The Stitches of Consciousness
Anderson, Indiana
Dorothy as all of the characters. Do you see her heartstrings and her heart?
Dorothy: A Journey Through Imagination and Literacy
The Dorothy exhibit reimagines the classic tale of The Wizard of Oz with a unique twist, blending storytelling and art to promote literacy and community engagement. Inspired by Downtown Anderson’s scarecrow theme, Dorothy is portrayed as a scarecrow herself, symbolizing the courage, heart, and intellect woven into every journey of self-discovery.
This mixed-media exhibit features handmade and upcycled elements, including a symbolic broom, witch’s hat, and an "Emerald City" watercolor piece. Every detail invites viewers to step into a world where art and narrative come to life, sparking imagination and celebrating the magic of libraries as gateways to adventure and knowledge.
First debuted at Atown Center, the Dorothy exhibit traveled to the Anderson Library, the Anderson Museum of Art, and finally, the Guyer Opera House in Lewisville, Indiana. At each stop, it resonated with audiences of all ages, leaving a lasting impression and standing as a testament to the power of creativity to inspire and educate.
